These Smoke chairs by Maarten Baas were literally set on fire and smoked to achieve this effect. There’s something very sultry and elegant about them… perhaps because baroque style never associates with the colour black. Two more chairs follow the cut.

The nostalgic feel of Lova Design’s conceptual short has me in a trance. Shot on Super 8 film, this ‘homemade video’ presentation is charming, natural, intimate – elements of style and clothing that are often forgotten in the modern day fashion business. I particularly love the piano soundtrack, as well as the models’ toasts to the camera during the end credits :) Below the cut are some of my favourite stills from the short.

I Want To Hold Your Hand

The original Beatles version is a lighthearted pop song, but Al Green’s rendition oozes soul. Give it a listen. I promise that you’ll be out of your seat and on the sooooul train in no time! Pay attention to the introduction… somewhere in there, someone says “shut up Al Green” :)

His new album Lay It Down is now in stores and let me tell you, many of the songs are comparable his old hits. Best of all, he collaborated with younger R&B artists on several tracks to make his work more relevant to the current generation of music enthusiasts. My favourite song (for now) is Stay With Me featuring John Legend. I listen to it on repeat while walking to class in the morning… it gives me the energy I need to stay attentive while learning about the glory of rocks.
