heavy dream rotation 4

TCM is Turner Classic Movies, a brilliant television channel that broadcasts nothing but films (mostly old and occasionally new) based on monthly themes. Each month, TCM airs their own promotional videos for these themes in place of the usual commercials. These videos, created by Raygun and Sabotage Film Group, feature carefully selected clips accompanied by contemporary music – a combination that really highlights the beauty of classic cinematography. My sad little screencap up there does them no justice at all…

Watch this, this, this, and this.

it’s up to you new york, new york 7

time square

I spent the past five days (well, technically six, courtesy of American Airlines and their “bad weather” cancellations) in Manhattan, staying in Midtown at a hotel within a few minutes walk of most Broadway shows. I ended up watching Avenue Q (hilarious), Spring Awakening (go listen to the soundtrack now), Gypsy (Patti LuPone!) and Sunday in the Park with George (based on Georges Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte“, awesome stage design). I couldn’t take pictures of the theatres or the shows themselves, but I was free to snap away at the permanent collections in both MoMA and the Met! In fact, a great chunk of my photos are just snapshots of artwork…

Below the cut are some of my favourite shots from the trip. You can try hovering for captions but they aren’t cooperating, so if you want to know the juicy details, just ask!
