I do realize that this site has been lacking lately, so I hope to make it up to you by bringing in a new segment called “Sound Bite”. Basically, my old mp3 player always had the ability to record sound and one day, I finally made use of this function by recording half an hour of me walking through downtown Montreal.

What I love about sounds is that nobody pays attention to them, yet they are everywhere, anywhere, all the time. In recording live sound, you capture bits of everyday life that the conscious mind never cares to pick up on – all the little things that fill your ears in between music, words, rhythm and silence.

I didn’t get to see the opening ceremony live but from what I’ve seen of the highlights, it was a dazzling spectacle of light, colour, costumes, imagery, and culture. The Chinese really did a fantastic job on making this a full-blown celebration of the world – a theme that the Olympics is meant to convey (without political undertones, cough cough). Now Vancouver 2010 is going to seem so bland…
