since i’ve already posted one video this week, why not post another – here’s an adorable short film by luke snellin entitled “mixtape” (both art forms happen to have a special place in my heart). i saw it a while ago but thought of it again when i came across an article mentioning spotify, the application that i used to make anonymous mixes for my neighbours back in sweden. this time around a swedish guy used the inbox function and a bit of creativity to create a poem for his girlfriend. perhaps the music itself is not the main focus here – not often will you see fleet foxes and chamillionaire in the same mix – but it’s a sweet gesture nonetheless!

ps. if you look at the picture frame rattling on the wall, you’ll notice that it’s the cover of little dragon’s first album. and this post has come full circle :)

hi! no, i haven’t dropped off the face of the earth or moved to barcelona permanently (though it would be nice and i would consider it). just trying to soak up the final bittersweet days of my year abroad before leaving for home, finally, and for good. i do have one last trip planned though – will be going up to stockholm next week for the jazz festival (surprise surprise). anyhow, please keep updating me on what you have been up to! i really want to know as i’ve completely disconnected from blogs since the start of my travels this month.

just dropping in to say hi from barcelona! how have you been??? i feel so out of touch with everyone when i’m travelling. i just arrived a few hours ago, and will be off to primavera sound fest tomorrow. so. very. stoked.

i’ll be heading on over to budapest for the weekend, then coming back to complete my last classes/exam of the year (!!!) before finally greeting my friends at the train station monday evening. i also have some super exciting news but i haven’t told a single soul about it yet, so i’ll keep it hush until it’s physically presentable ;) the more suspense the better!

two of my closest friends from home are coming to visit soon. we already have some travel plans in mind once my classes end in mid-may. i remember when they first surprised me with “i’m coming to sweden!” back in december… and now they’ll be here in a matter of days!!!

last weekend my roommate and i decided to embrace the easter spirit by indulging in (none other than) eggs – first we bought kinder surprise (most exciting), and then we tried our hands at making chinese marbled tea eggs! to my (kinder) surprise they turned out really well, both in terms of taste and presentation. mmm, scrumptious nostalgia.

here’s the recipe we followed – you should definitely give it a try if these ingredients are available to you. the most important component is the five-spice bag but above all, exercise extreme patience while the eggs soak. the longer they bathe in the concoction, the richer the taste, and the prettier the outcome.

basic swedish vocabulary earth hour 2010

several weeks ago i decided to initiate part two of my neighbourly music sharing experiment. now that i’ve moved to a new place, i figured that i should try a new medium as well, so this time around i made a playlist on spotify instead (which is basically like itunes but you can stream all the songs on the program for free). i scraped together a pull-tab ad where each tab is a link to the playlist, then placed the ad next to the laundry room booking board – the one common area that everybody accesses in this apartment complex. i didn’t expect anyone to take them but they were all gone by the time i checked back a few days later! i added another sixteen tabs afterwards. i hope whoever took one enjoyed the music :)
