since i’ve already posted one video this week, why not post another – here’s an adorable short film by luke snellin entitled “mixtape” (both art forms happen to have a special place in my heart). i saw it a while ago but thought of it again when i came across an article mentioning spotify, the application that i used to make anonymous mixes for my neighbours back in sweden. this time around a swedish guy used the inbox function and a bit of creativity to create a poem for his girlfriend. perhaps the music itself is not the main focus here – not often will you see fleet foxes and chamillionaire in the same mix – but it’s a sweet gesture nonetheless!

ps. if you look at the picture frame rattling on the wall, you’ll notice that it’s the cover of little dragon’s first album. and this post has come full circle :)

sights and observations from the past month or so

collectors are people with a tactical instinct; their experience teaches them that when they capture a strange city, the smallest antique shop can be a fortress, the most remote stationary store a key position. how many cities have revealed themselves to me in the marches i undertook in pursuit of books! … now i am on the last half-emptied crate, and it is way past midnight. other thoughts fill me than the ones i am talking about — not thoughts but images, memories … for a collector — and i mean a real collector, a collector as he ought to be — ownership is the most intimate relationship that one can have to things. not that they come alive in him; it is he who lives in them.

almost two months ago when i was last in berlin, i met up with the adorable lisa for a visit to désirée‘s showroom no. 4, followed by a quick lunch by the water (spargelcremesuppe!) and a stroll around the market. the showroom space was rather small but i absolutely loved the way it was laid out, meticulously and thoughtfully, creating a story behind each designer’s set of works. désirée chatted with us for quite a while and i learned a lot from her, about everything from education to independent design to the nitty gritty details of life in berlin. i do miss that city quite often…

in other news, happy birthday to tracy today and then on saturday, to myself – not twins but close enough, born eight hours apart on consecutive days. we’re twenty-one!!! :)
